Jon has always been drawn to things that have involved movement, music, and the arts. He would consider himself a very versatile artist, which he believes is due to his diverse experiences growing up. Many describe him as a “Renaissance Man”. Some of his talents include training in various musical instruments. He is also a black belt, gymnast, diver, and former professional figure skater.
He found his passion for art in high school under the instruction of the nationally recognized teacher by the name of Zan Burningham. He won many local competitions as well as national competitions with his art.
He attended college at Utah State University and was awarded a full-tuition art scholarship in 2002 as a major in painting and drawing. He apprenticed under the Yale graduate and painting professor Woody Shepherd. This is where he was taught most of what he knows in terms of stenciling, color theory, additive/subtractive processes, and the freedom of exploration.
Ever since college, he has worked as a professional artist and has shown in several different states. Jon moved to Phoenix in 2010 to train in pairs figure skating. He found a love for the desert and decided to stay after he retired as a competitive figure skater. He has since attended massage therapy school, and worked as a Licensed Massage Therapist. This is where he learned the majority of his knowledge of human anatomy that is evident in his work. This past year Jon was represented by {9} The Gallery at Art Basel Week in Miami, FL where he sold work. “Male Reconstructed” is currently his 6th solo show in the Phoenix area.
The artists that influence his work are vast and many, but to name a few are: Richard Diebenkorn, Gustav Klimt, Rembrandt, Euan Uglow, R.B. Kitaj, Claude Monet, Edward Hopper, Jackson Pollock, Gerhard Richter, Vincent Van Gogh, and Andrew Salgado.
